MULTIPLIER | salt lake city team

My picture-perfect family began to unravel quite quickly the day my dad tragically passed away from a sudden and unexpected heart attack when I was almost eight years old. The youngest of three, I sought for any stability as my world quickly broke down, choosing to stay in the church I had grown up in as the rest of my family left for various reasons. After my dad passed away, I internalized the message that “no one is going to provide for you anymore, so you better be good enough to provide for yourself”. I operated under the assumption that I had to be perfect at everything. This quickly became my personal theology about God, too; that he was keeping score of my performance, loving me more when I was “good”, and less when I failed. It wasn’t until I went to a new church in Vancouver, Washington as a high school freshman that my life began to transform. They were preaching through Galatians and talking about how we are “saved by grace alone through faith alone, and this is not of yourselves, it is a gift of God, not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Galatians 2:8-9). Believing this truth changed my life!

I got involved with Resonate Church as a sophomore at WSU, and soon began realizing I was following Jesus in a private way that lacked both community and mission. As I got more involved in community, I began leading other women into the knowledge of Jesus and discipling them in their growing faith. As Jesus grew my love for him, he grew my love for people. So much so that I decided to drop out of veterinary school to pursue becoming a high school science teacher, which I did for two years after graduating with my Masters in teaching. The next year my husband, Jonathan, and I were able to move to Salt Lake City to plant a Resonate Church on the University of Utah campus. I quit my dream job teaching at Pullman High School to join staff here full time as a multiplier (campus missionary) and help establish the collegiate church in SLC. My weekly responsibilities include meeting girls on campus (currently I’m the only woman on staff), discipling women who want to know more about following Jesus, planning, executing, and running events, advertising and marketing, caring for the women on our core team, and a LOT of hosting and cooking!

It has been an absolute JOY. Ministry is hard, but there is so much joy in watching students come to know Jesus and watch Him transform their lives. Here in Utah, though it is a phenomenally religious state, there is so much deception and misconception about who God is and what it means to follow Jesus. Few have ever heard the true gospel as laid out in the Bible. Utah is 2% evangelical Christian, which is on par with China. In a real sense, Utah feels like an “unreached” area, where Bible-believing Christians are a clear minority.

Jonathan and I firmly believe that what we are doing here is a kingdom group effort. Like the story in Exodus 17 where the Israelites are fighting the Amalekites, the battle was in Israel's favor when Moses’ arms are raised up on a hilltop. When his arms grow weary, it’s Aaron and Hur who are there lifting his arms up. Jonathan and I sometimes feel a little like the Israelites on the battlefield, but we can’t do what we’re doing here without the Moses and the Aarons and the Hurs helping us and interceding for us. If you feel prompted by the Lord to join us in the battle in Salt Lake City, on the field or on the hilltop, would you consider joining our financial and prayer team? It is our joy to be players sent into the fray as the Kingdom advances here in Utah.
