jESUS IS GREATER
Acts 4:1-22, Matthew 28: 19-20, Hebrews 10:19-25
I think we can all think of something we own that we rave about. For me it’s my instant pot or maybe a new pour over set(very PNW of me I know). I think we can all look at some of the things we have and think of the person who suggested it to us or told us why it was a “must” purchase item. Now take that same idea and instead of an item or buy or thing to own, it’s the source of the thing we believe deeply. Peter and John, while in the custody of Jewish priests and rulers, preach the Gospel that they have had a personal experience with. This personal experience could not be denied and they knew could not be kept to themselves.
It wasn’t just boldness that was brought about by works or pride, but the work of the Holy Spirit that led them to share what they have been transformed by (v.8). They witnessed the resurrection. Peter RAN to the tomb 3 days after Jesus’ death. John was a close friend and disciple to Jesus, following Him for most of his ministry. They saw the life of Jesus and it changed everything. As Peter and John are sharing their personal testimonies and Gospel truth to these rulers, can you imagine the emotions they were confronted with? Their boldness deeply affected the movement and mission God has for each and every one of us. YES, the same commandment that we are given in Matthew 28, was also given to them. We can live in the powerful truth that Jesus’ transformation within us has ripple effects to those after us.
God has created us with a purpose, and He will use us in His work even if we don’t feel like we have it all together. Take Peter and John for example, they grew up as fishermen and were given no formal education and yet were used in a profound way by God. Our lack of knowledge does NOT disqualify anyone from studying Jesus, being with him, and living their life like him. What better way to learn than alongside the teacher Himself?
So today, take a moment to think about your story. Think about the transformation God has done within you, just by the power of His name alone. Remind yourselves of Hebrews 10 and how that can encourage us towards the future. PRAY that God would stir boldness within you to now only share the Gospel with yourself, but those who are far from Him. Believe that you do not have to know it all to have influence. Study the word, develop habits that lead you towards Jesus, and take risks.
