The Power and Purity of God

Acts 5:12-16, John 14:12, Hebrews 2:4

In this first section of Acts 5, we see the importance of integrity in the early church as the Holy Spirit worked through Peter to keep the integrity of the group in the early church and the subsequent punishment from God for Ananias and Sapphira who acted in hypocrisy and deceit. This shows us the importance of purity within the church.

Next in Acts 5:12-16, we see a tie between purity and power. The early apostles were set apart from all who believed in Christ and the gospel and who received the Holy Spirit. Everyone met together in Solomon’s Colonnade which was an open place called Solomon’s porch in the temple. The disciples were united and sincere in their gospel ministry.

“No one else dared join them” because of the great signs and wonders that were performed among the apostles. No one else could do the things that were happening through these disciples so there was a holy superiority and respect for these apostles through whom the Holy Spirit was working mightily.

Reflect:

Why is purity within the church important and connected to the power of God?

What is an area of your life that you can repent from in order to see more of God’s power working through you?
