In the early days of the Church, something breathtaking happened. Ordinary people began living in an extraordinary way—sharing meals, praying together, giving sacrificially, worshiping with joy. And what happened as a result? Heaven brushed up against earth. The Spirit of God wove their lives together into something whole and holy.
This wasn’t just community, it was communion. A light-filled, reconciled people living under the reign of Jesus, showing the world what it looks like when heaven comes near. No one was left out. No one was unseen. Needs were met, hearts were softened, and the love of God was so tangible, people couldn’t stay away. It was a preview of the future, a kingdom coming, even now, wherever Christ is King.
Read Acts 2:42-47 (ESV)
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Reflection:
Where in your daily life, your home, church, or neighborhood could you more intentionally live out the Kingdom values of shared life, generosity, and joy?
What does this passage show you about God’s heart for His people and His desire to bring heaven near through His Church?
