Matthew 27:32-66, Mark 15:21-47, Luke 23:26-56, John 19:17-42
Today, on Good Friday, and this very weekend, and every day, we get to celebrate that Christ is RISEN.
You know what’s funny, I think if we were to accidentally leave out a part of the gospel its this, that Jesus rose on the third day. But this is so significant to our faith. The resurrection of Jesus is essential. It is by His stripes that we are healed, that we are made right before the Father.
Jesus has overcome.
““Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates” (Revelation 23:12-14). What a glorious picture of the redemption at hand and the promised glory to come.
Jesus is our final sacrifice because of His resurrection. He rose in VICTORY, showing that sin has no power. Jesus solidifies that power in Revelation 23. He is the great I AM.
He is who He says He is. It is in His character to be powerful, to be the first and last, the Alpha and Omega, to be the sacrifice, saviour, and deliverer.
Let us celebrate that because God is who He says He is, we can be risen with Christ in His victory. As we dwell in the weight that He bore on our behalf on the Cross today during Good Friday, may we remember the mercy and grace that awaits us. That is what we are celebrating today, tomorrow, and the next day; that is what we have the freedom to celebrate for the rest of our days.
And His second coming, His return, is what we await, with hope.
